About ProSomnus

More Sleep.
Less Hassle.

When you think of OSA, you may think of asking your family doctor about your snoring, having to sleep in a lab, then ending up with a bulky CPAP machine and mask.

Maybe that’s why you avoid bringing up the topic in the first place.

Introduced in 1980, a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy device is the standard of OSA therapy. Some people find they help their OSA, but many people find sleeping with a mask and forced air to be uncomfortable or difficult.

Many patients with mild and moderate, and even some with severe sleep apnea or snoring don’t need a CPAP but still may benefit from deeper sleep and better breathing. That’s where ProSomnus OSA Therapy fits in.

Traditional OSA Options and ProSomnus OSA Therapy

Why Choose ProSomnus OSA Therapy?

Traditional CPAP Therapy

When you think of OSA, you may think of asking your family doctor about your snoring, having to sleep in a lab, then ending up with a bulky CPAP machine and mask.

Maybe that’s why you avoid bringing up the topic in the first place.

Introduced in 1980, a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy device is the standard of OSA therapy. Some people find they help their OSA, but many people find sleeping with a mask and forced air to be uncomfortable or difficult.

Many other patients with mild sleep apnea or snoring don’t need a CPAP but still may benefit from deeper sleep and better breathing.

ProSomnus OSA Therapy

ProSomnus OSA Therapy is the latest advancement in sleep technology and is as effective (and more comfortable!) as CPAP for many patients.

An oral appliance is ideal if you just can’t get comfortable with your CPAP, want to travel easily, or just don’t want to sleep with your face mostly covered.

Get the rest—and oxygen—your body needs with the precisely-designed ProSomnus OSA Therapy device. Created for both strength and comfort, this device is nearly unbreakable, yet has a profile so slim that you may forget you’re even wearing it.

FAQ

The good news is the online screening and telemedicine consultation are free. If you need a home sleep test, that would be covered by your medical insurance. Similarly, any other treatments would fall under your medical plan.
Almost every medical insurance company covers Oral Appliance Therapy for mild, moderate and severe OSA. Fees can vary but insurance companies set reimbursement levels for in network fees. Even the testing is covered.

Wearing the ProSomnus appliance (like a mouthguard for your upper and lower jaw) holds your lower jaw gently forward and opens the airway in the back of your throat. This makes it way less likely that the air rippling through the partially closed airway makes a noise (SNORING) and your breathing flows more easily. Most snorers have sleep apnea, but a few do not. This treatment almost always solves the snoring problem very quickly…as well as sleep apnea. Kind of like a 2 for 1 treatment.

The good news is these retainer-like devices only need to be worn when you sleep. Most designs are easy to still speak and drink water if you should get up at night.
The device simply holds your jaw in a more forward position. This opens the airway by pulling the tongue forward with the jaw while you sleep. Sometimes, it takes a few days or weeks to find the right position for your lower jaw to accomplish that.
Not usually. In fact, many people like the way their jaw feels in the more forward, airway friendly position.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a serious, life threatening medical condition where the patient is not getting enough good air while they sleep. It is usually accompanied by snoring. The frequent near wakening to breathe better is a contributing factor to several life-threatening diseases (heart attack, arrythmia, stroke, diabetes, hypertension and depression).
ProSomnus Sleep Technologies is a medical device manufacturer who is partnered with Dedicated Sleep to help bring you the best OSA therapy. ProSomnus devices are rapidly emerging as the leading alternative to CPAP for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Effective, non-intrusive and easy to use, each ProSomnus device is prescribed by a physician and fitted by a Dental Sleep Medicine specialist. ProSomnus devices are an excellent option for people with OSA who prefer a more comfortable treatment experience.
Humans are the only mammal that experiences this serious medical condition. The structure and position of the uvula and epiglottis leave the back of the throat area of the airway particularly susceptible to collapse when we sleep. People with larger tongues, smaller jaw bones and who are overweight are more at risk. More men and more people over 50 years of age have OSA.
Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT), also called MAD therapy or Mandibular Advancement Device therapy, is a combination of Upper and Lower mouthguard like devices that hold your lower jaw forward and help maintain and open the airway while you sleep. Much more comfortable than CPAP, these precision medical devices are very effective for mild and moderate OSA and moderately effective for severe OSA.
Currently, we do not participate in Medicare reimbursement, but we can recommend a provider who does.
Rarely but yes. Like any treatment for a medical disorder, there can be some transient or long-term issues that cause a patient to discontinue treatment. ProSomnus devices are the most precise and are designed to prevent most side effects. Tooth movement is prevented by the retainer like fit. Jaw or muscle soreness is mitigated by having such a small profile device, which means you will not have to have your jaw as far forward as with other appliances. Your dentist who fits the device will train you how to get your normal bite back each morning. That is important, because, after sleeping with your jaw forward for 7-8 hours, the joints need to be reminded where they belong during the day for your normal bite. Some patients do experience dry mouth or drooling occasionally, but these seem to be quite minor.
OAT does not work 100% of the time. After carefully adjusting the fit and dosage of the device, you are not able to achieve the improvements in sleeping and breathing at night, you may need to revisit CPAP or other treatments. Sometimes a combination of various therapies is the best solution.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) helps keep your airway open, full of good air and oxygen while you sleep. Although it works nearly 100% of the time, most patients do not like wearing a mask and hose or sleeping next to a machine that pumps air. BiPAP, Biphasic Positive Airway Pressure and APAP, Auto-titrating Positive Airway Pressure are two other types of PAP treatments.

This process has been advantaged for you and your insurance coverage. A team of in network multidisciplinary physicians will oversee the testing and telemedicine consultations on your behalf and a ProSomnus Certified Dentist will fit your appliance.

After your diagnosis with a physician, you will have a consultation and impression appointment with a ProSomnus Certified Dentist. They may choose to order a ProSomnus Oral Appliance to help open your airway at night and two morning guides to help you reestablish your regular bite the next morning. Also covered is a Patient Titration Monitor, a remote pulse O2 type test to help the dentist determine the right position of your lower jaw and an expanded warranty for your convenience.

Snoring is the vibration in the back of your throat resulting in sounds due to obstructed air movement while sleeping. In some cases, the sound may be soft, but in most cases, it can be loud and unpleasant. Snoring during sleep is often a sign, or first alarm, of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a very serious medical condition

Snoring does not mean for certain you have OSA but is so highly associated with Sleep Apnea that a test is usually recommended to rule in or out this serious disease.

Yes, most likely, patients often report their snoring is relieved when being treated for OSA right away! IF you do not have OSA as determined by a sleep study, the physician can provide options for treating your snoring

Snoring, if coincident with sleep apnea, has been correlated with heart disease and heart attack (23 times more likely), and Stroke (4 times more likely) and several other serious health conditions (arrythmia, adult onset diabetes, hypertension, depression, cognitive issues)

Please encourage your partner to get help. If one partner has a problem such as snoring or sleep apnea (a condition when breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep), it’s a good chance his/her bedmate will be disturbed. One study found that when snorers’ symptoms were treated, their partners’ sleep efficiency (i.e. how much they’re actually sleeping and not just lying in bed) increased by 13 percent—even if the partner had gotten used to the snoring over time
